Discover Miami's diamond in the rough

No matter how long I’ve lived in Miami, it never seems to amaze me how often I find myself in awe of all the hidden jewels around a seemingly small town. While some call Miami a hotspot, party central, I call it home. I lived here my entire adult life, and I pride myself on being my friends' designated tour guide and restaurant connaisseur when they come visit. A few years back, while working as a makeup artist on Miami Beach, I decided to take a break from work and unwind on Lincoln road. Being quite the epicure that I am, I was craving particularly distinctive things, something new but yet familiar. As I walked the strip of Lincoln road mall, in the midst of what seemed like hundreds of restaurants, nothing looked alluring or stimulating to my taste buds. I was about to throw in the towel when I decided to check my Instagram feed, which has really been a game changer for visual creatures like myself. I decided to check the popular location tags of people on Lincoln road and that's when I saw it...The famous "Love me Fck me" sign, quite the attention grabber I'd say. Without wasting a second I clicked on the location and started heading right over to Bodega Taqueria y Tequila. When I arrived at Bodega, I was kind of shocked and a little disappointed, could the anticipation be all in vain? But the most disappointing of all was that the sign was nowhere to be found. I circled the restaurant a few times, hoping the actual place would be in the back but I was wrong. Feeling defeated and now famished, I walked over to the window and order 3 tacos, my options of beverages were water, Modelo beer, or sodas, and I was not happy about it. Seeing the frustration on my face, a gentleman who seemed to be one of the waiters asked: "Miss, would you like a drink at our bar instead?" Bar? What bar? I replied. He pointed at what looked like a creepy porta-potty door and said "In there" What lied behind the door you see, is a secret, a secret that I am willing to share as long as you promise to keep it to yourself. Behind the oddly placed porta-potty door lies one of Miami coolest and greatest party spots, a New York inspired industrial lounge with one of the most impressive bars I have ever seen. The dimly lit lounge and the 90's Hip-hop playlist transported me right to Brooklyn, New York. Just when I thought my day couldn't take a better turn, the waiter walked in with my tacos. The tacos are fairly priced, but the quality is unquantifiable, you will taste the authentic Mexican flavors in every bite. Their cocktails are crafted with pure ingredients and the tequila takes you on the beaches of Mexico. So, next time you're in Miami and looking for a good time, remember our little secret and visit Bodega. Enjoy those pictures from my last visit there.
